We are all sometimes guilty of watching more TV than we should.
And with the rise of Netflix and other streaming sites, we’ve taken binge-watching to a whole new level.
But we should be very careful when watching a screen for hours on end, because there’s a pretty terrifying side effect that no one seems to be talking about.
A study, published in the journal Circulatio, has revealed that binge-watching TV can increase the risk of DEATH from a blood clot in the lung.
86,000 people in Japan were monitored for 19 years and the results show the risk of dying from a blood clot to the lung rose by 70 per cent for those who watched between two and a half hours and 5 hours of TV every day.
The risk grew by 40 per cent for each additional two hours of television watched.
It’s believed that leg immobility during television watching increases the risk of a fatal pulmonary embolism.
People are advised to drink plenty of water while sitting or lying down watching a screen and to also stand up and stretch and walk around every hour.
