As supermarkets continue to be hit with increased demand due to the coronavirus outbreak, Aldi has taken a major step by altering trading hours.
In a statement made on Tuesday, the supermarket chain revealed that all stores were changing their hours to 9:30am-7:00pm until further notice. There are many reasons behind the decision including allowing more time for staff to get stock from distribution centres onto trucks and onto the shelves for the next day.
It would also allow more time for cleaning which is a major priority due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The decision was also made so the staff would have more time to go home and take breaks to spend time with family.
In a statement made on Tuesday, Aldi said that the staff had been working at ‘full-steam and working under immense pressure’. The chain has also stressed they have enough food to go around and have asked shoppers to be considerate and only buy what their household needs.
