Okay, it’s official, our addiction to our phones is getting beyond ridiculous.

First they joined us in the toilet. Then they entered the bedroom. Now we’re that attached to our screens, officials are installing traffic lights in the ground!

The New South Wales State Government will trial the pavement lights in the hope of protecting ‘petextrians’ from causing accidents while glued to their phone.

From December a six month trial will see lights installed throughout Sydney’s CBD.

And while you may think it’s taking things to the extreme – we’re not the first to do so!

In April a German town installed a similar system to stop people absorbed in their phone from walking onto train tracks.

With 61 pedestrians killed last year in NSW, let’s hope the trial saves lives.
