Members of Guns N’ Roses have kickstarted their long-awaited reunion tour with a concert at the Troubadour, one of the rock clubs where they first made their name on Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip, Rolling Stone magazine reports.

The concert was “an intimate gig that marked the first time Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan have performed together onstage since their infamous Buenos Aires gig on July 17, 1993”, the magazine reported.

Video was banned at the gig, but some fans were able to post photos on social media.

Earlier, a video on celebrity gossip site TMZ showed Slash, Duff McKagan, Richard Fortus and Dizzy Reed arriving at the club “to a throng of screaming fans”.

The surprise show marks the launch of the band’s Not in This Lifetime reunion tour, their first time on stage together since 1993.

The date of the gig, April Fool’s Day, had led some to speculate that it was an elaborate hoax.

“Following months of intense rumour, speculation and feverish excitement from rock music fans around the world, Guns N’ Roses confirmed today they will embark on a massive North American summer stadium tour … for what will be one of the century’s most anticipated musical events,” the band said on its official website.
