11 years ago, Olivia Newton-John’s partner, Patrick McDermott, vanished.

He was on a fishing trip when it was thought that he’d died – though his body was never recovered.

However, Woman’s Day claims that Newton-John’s former lover has been found alive and well and has been living in Mexico with his European girlfriend.

Investigator John Nazarian told the publication: “It’s rumoured he was with a German national. I spoke to people there. The girl he was travelling with was described as having a German accent.”

Nazarian describes the claims that he ‘faked his own death’ as “preposterous”, according to a report on news.com.au.

“To come up with the conclusion that he fell off the boat, and allegedly no-one saw him fall off the boat, is the most preposterous thing I’ve ever heard in my life,” he said.

However, facts from the incident do seem to support the theory.

None of the 22 people on the boat seemed to see McDermott go overboard, on June 30th 2005, and in fact, he was not even reported missing until a week later when Newton-John contacted authorities after he failed to show up for a family gathering.

US investigators launched an exhaustive search for the cameraman, but just two months later it was allegedly revealed McDermott had faked his own death and was living in Mexico.

The circumstances surrounding the disappearance seemed suspect.

McDermott had filed for bankruptcy, having unpaid debts totalling more than $30,000 at the time including $8,000 in child support for his son.

The investigators also discovered Korean-born McDermott secured a second passport in his birth name Patrick Kim and withdrew life savings from two bank accounts just before he disappeared.

McDermott allegedly wishes to be left alone.

Private Investigator Philip Klein – who wrote a book on the case – ended his research when he received a fax on McDermott’s behalf in 2009.

“His lawyer called from Mexico City and said that Patrick didn’t want to be bothered. He hadn’t faked anything. He just wanted to get away from the drama,” he said.
