If you’re keen to get your hands on the iPhone 8 as soon as it drops, you may need to get saving. Reports say that it might be more expensive than you expect.

When Apple released the iPhone 7 last year, it kept pricing the same as the iPhone 6S or iPhone 6, the “premium features” of the iPhone 7 Plus saw the tech giant slightly increasing the outright cost of the smartphone when compared to its predecessors.

This seriously paid off for Apple.

According to news.com.auCowen & Co estimated the iPhone 7 Plus was responsible for 40 per cent of the 58.5 million units sold in the December quarter – an amount 17 per cent more than iPhone 6s Plus sales.

So we’re hardly surprised to hear reports that Apple will follow suit with the release of its iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.

“The iPhone base wants a new, cooler iPhone,” Cowen’s Tim Arcuri said. “There’s a lot of pent-up demand for a product with newer, cooler features.”

Arcuri said that Apple “pulled that [pricing] lever like never before” with the iPhone 7 Plus. He also estimates there’s “even more room” for Apple to increase prices on future devices.

According to Tech News, considering Apple is rumored to launch two iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus successors alongside the radically redesigned iPhone 8, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the iPhone 8 priced a higher than the iPhone 7s Plus.

We guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

At this stage the release date is estimated to be September 2017.
