It looks like The Go-Go’s will soon be going on a permanent vacation, as the veteran all-female rock band has announced plans for a farewell tour that will kick off this year. The North American trek is scheduled to get underway on August 2 in Clearwater, Florida, and is plotted out through to an August 30 show in the group’s hometown of Los Angeles.
“After a 38-year run, we are gearing up for one last blast of a summer tour,” The Go-Go’s say in a joint statement. “We feel so lucky and so grateful to have had the incredible support of our fans for so long. We can’t wait to get out on the road and give the people what they want: some loud fast music and a great party!”
Among the major cities the band will visit during the trek are Washington, D.C.; Boston; Philadelphia; New York; Toronto; Phoenix; and Las Vegas. Appearing as a special guest at most of the shows will be L.A.-based indie-rock duo Best Coast, while the opening act throughout the tour will be teenage singer/songwriter Kaya Stewart, daughter of Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart.
The Go-Go’s lineup currently includes four of the band’s five original members – singer Belinda Carlisle, guitarists Jane Wiedlin and Charlotte Caffey, and drummer Gina Schock. Bassist Kathy Valentine left the band in 2013 due to “irreconcilable differences.” Tickets for most of the shows will go on sale this week. Visit GoGos.com for more details.
