U2 rocker The Edge is mourning the loss of his father, who passed away on Saturday.
John Garvin Evans died on Saturday at the Bons Secours Hospital in Dublin, Ireland following “a long and courageous battle with illness”, according to a family notice published on The Irish Times website on Sunday.
Evans dealt with his illness with “typical joie de vivre” and had “wonderful care” at the facility, the notice reads. He will be remembered at a funeral at Howth Presbyterian Church in Howth, Ireland on Wednesday.
The 54-year-old guitarist, real name David Howell Evans, has siblings Richard and Gillian. Their mother Gwenda passed away in 2012.
In 2012, Evans Sr. told Italian magazine Inutile that he was lucky to have three children he always got along with “right from the time when they were very young, up to present time.”
“We really did not have any so called ‘teenage’ problems, and I can honestly say we have never had the slightest disagreement that I can remember – ever,” he said. “If that sounds too good to be true – well I guess we are lucky.”
The Edge, nor his U2 bandmates, have commented publicly on the loss.
