Fans of The Cure who missed out on Splendour in the Grass tickets will be able to catch the band at sideshows around Australia.

The post-punk group will draw on hits, rarities and unreleased tracks as they explore 37 years of Cure songs.

The Cure are renowned for playing long sets of more than two hours that delve into their extensive back catalogue.

Robert Smith will front the band, with Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O’Donnell (keys) and Reeves Gabrels (guitar) completing the line-up.

The Cure’s last Australian appearance was in 2011 when they played their first three albums in their entirety during two Reflections shows at the Sydney Opera House.

The tour marks the first time they have made it to other capital cities since 2007, but the announcement does not include plans for a Brisbane show.

The Cure will play at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney and Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, with details of the Perth and Adelaide legs of the tour still to come.

The iconic English band will also return to New Zealand for the first time in nine years to play one show in Auckland.

After taking a break from touring last year, the band will do an extensive run of shows across north America before heading to New Zealand and Australia.

July 28 – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne
