A pair of archival releases celebrating the music of The Cars will be arriving in the coming months. First up is a box set called The Elektra Years 1978-1987 that gathers together the six studio albums the band issued on the label, while the second is a single-disc hits compilation titled Moving in Stereo: The Best of The Cars.

The Elektra Years 1978-1987 will be released as a six-CD set and as a digital download on March 11. The collection features digitally remastered versions of the band’s 1978 self-titled debut, 1979’s Candy-O, 1980’s Panorama, 1981’s Shake It Up, 1984’s Heartbeat City and 1987’s Door to Door, with the new mastering overseen by frontman Ric Ocasek.

Each disc will come packaged in a sleeve replicating the original album artwork. Cars drummer David Robinson, who helped design the band’s album covers, served as art director for the box set. Meanwhile, a limited-edition vinyl version of The Elektra Years 1978-1987, with each album pressed on a different color 180-gram vinyl disc, will be released on June 7.

Moving in Stereo: The Best of The Cars hits retailers from May 6. The 18-track retrospective was curated by the group’s surviving members Ocasek, Robinson, guitarist Elliot Easton and keyboardist Greg Hawkes — and features many of the band’s most popular tunes. The track list includes “Just What I Needed,” “Let’s Go,” “You Might Think,” “Shake It Up,” “Drive” and “My Best Friend’s Girl.” The album also features three rarities a single mix of “I’m Not the One,” a live version of “Everything You Say” and a new mix of “Sad Song”  a song from The Cars’ 2011 reunion album Move Like This by producer Philippe Zdar.
