Bruce Springsteen, Joan Jett, Billy Idol, Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones are among the stars who will be on hand to salute The Who’s Pete Townshend at the 11th annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert, scheduled for May 28 at Best Buy Theater in New York City. As previously reported, Townshend will receive the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award at the event for his support of the MAP Fund’s work aiding musicians fighting addiction and substance abuse.
Springsteen will present the award to the Who guitarist and songwriter, while Jett, Idol and Jones are part of the gala’s initial lineup of performers. Townshend also is slated to perform at the charity bash, accompanied by The Who’s touring band, which includes his brother, guitarist Simon Townshend, drummer Zak Starkey, bassist Pino Palladino and music director/keyboardist Frank Simes. More performers will be announced soon.
In addition, longtime Who manager Bill Curbishley will be honored at the event with the From the Heart Award, which acknowledges his “unconditional friendship and dedication to the mission and goals of the [MusiCares] organization.”
