Was marrying Mr Big a mistake for Carrie?
We get the answer from the horse’s mouth (sort of)!
Series creator Darren Star opened up on the ending of Sex and The City and how Carrie still ended up marrying Mr Big.
But it wasn’t just a romantic fairytale ending… and Star still isn’t convinced that it was the right way to finish the series.
But part of his role was to help nurture aspiring talent behind the scenes in regards to writers and producers, and he decided part of that growth is allowing them to follow their own vision on where the storyline should go.
“It ultimately betrayed what it was about, which was that women don’t ultimately find happiness from marriage,” he told Elle.
“Not that they can’t. But the show initially was going off script from the romantic comedies that had come before it.
“That’s what had made women so attached. At the end, it became a conventional romantic comedy…
“But unless you’re there to write every episode, you’re not going to get the ending you want.”
Sarah Jessica Parker, however, has a different opinion.
And lets face it – she lived through the relationship of Carrie and Mr Big more than anyone.
“As I recall, the way Carrie and Big married was something she wanted rather than a feeling that life was slipping away and she best settle quickly,” the actress said.
“I don’t think of it as someone diminishing herself by letting a man marry her—it always felt that she had arrived at that on her own.
“But the beauty is we can all have lots and lots of opinions about lots of choices Carrie made that we object to or that we stand by.
“If that’s Darren’s feeling, I think it’s interesting!”
Where do you stand? Team Big, Team Aiden or Team Single Carrie!?
