You know The Beatles now meet Beat Bugs. It’s a new animated children’s series that will incorporate various new cover versions of classic Fab Four songs into its storylines.
Among the many artists confirmed to contribute renditions of Beatles tunes to Beat Bugs are Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, The Shins, Of Monsters and Men, Regina Spektor, and James Bay. The series focuses on the adventures of a group of tiny friends whose whole universe revolves around the backyard of a suburban home.
The producers of Beat Bugs were able to secure a deal to use compositions from John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s Northern Songs catalog. The tunes will be tied into the plot of each episode of the program, which will include “uplifting and life-affirming” themes. Cornell is confirmed to sing “Drive My Car,” while Vedder will put his spin on “Magical Mystery Tour.”
Other Beatles songs featured in Beat Bugs include “All You Need Is Love,” “Come Together,” “Help!,” “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” “Penny Lane,” “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” and “Yellow Submarine.”
In a press statement, Vedder calls Beat Bugs “a tremendous show for kids that combines beautiful animation with great stories and obviously some of the best songs ever written.”
Beat Bugs will premiere on Netflix this August. You can check out the show’s teaser trailer, featuring Vedder’s version of “Magical Mystery Tour,” now on YouTube.
