A few years back, Ringo Starr teamed up with renowned illustrator Ben Cort to create a children’s book based on the drummer’s classic 1969 Beatles tune “Octopus’s Garden.” Now, the French film and TV production company Superprod has signed on to create an animated adaptation for TV.
The production company is partnering with Simon & Schuster, Universal Music Publishing and Ringo’s Startling Music company on the project. Superprod’s international sales company Superights will shop the TV event to international buyers at the 2016 MIPTV trade conference, which takes place April 4-7 in Cannes, France.
“We are particularly proud and happy to work on this great book and music. The evergreen song by Ringo Starr and the superb drawings by Ben Cort are a wonderful setting for telling our animated stories,” say Superprod executives Clément Calvet and Jeremie Fajner. “We are thrilled to team up with such great talents and major partners in the music and book publishing industries.”
The Octopus’s Garden book was published February 2014 and came packaged with a CD featuring a recording of the song and audio of Starr reading the lyrics. “Octopus’s Garden” originally appeared on The Beatles’ Abbey Road album.
