This Good Friday 25th March, Lord Mayor Graham Quirk and the rest of Brisbane will be celebrating the re-opening of the Shorncliffe Pier after its $20million refurbishment.
The opening will also mark the start of Queensland’s biggest Easter sporting event – the ‘Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race’ at this year’s Bluewater festival.
The refurbished Pier is 350m long and boasts the best spot to watch the opening league of the race.
Starting at 11:10am, the race comes so close by the pier that spectators could almost jump aboard!
Moreton Bay will also be in full view from Shorncliffe Pier, one of Brisbane’s oldest and most loved structures, after Quirk cuts the ribbon at 9:30am.
The Bluewater Festival officially begins with fireworks over the pier and Sandgate on Bayfire Night – Thursday 24th March 2016 – to celebrate the beginning of the Easter break.
There will also be live entertainment, a lantern parade, market stalls and gourmet food.
The festival continues into the Easter weekend.
