Purple Rain has been re-released in U.S. cinemas after the death of Prince.
The musician’s 1984 movie hit 87 AMC theatres on Saturday and will run until Thursday.
Bosses at Warner Bros., the studio behind the movie, teamed up with Carmike Theatres, which is merging with AMC, to air the film in 80 of their cinemas.
Purple Rain was Prince’s movie debut. The film, which was semi-autobiographical, earned the singer an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score in 1985, and the accompanying album produced two number one singles – When Doves Cry, and Let’s Go Crazy. The movie’s soundtrack also went platinum 13 times over.
Prince died on 21 April, aged 57, at his Paisley Park residence in Minnesota.
