Madonna is set to play Auckland’s Vector Arena on March 5 and 6. She reportedly arrived in the city earlier this week.
As New Zealand welcomes Madonna for the shows this weekend, Auckland bishop Pat Dunn has criticized the singer to the The New Zealand Herald:
“There is no question in my mind that some of Madonna’s material is highly offensive to Christianity and will be found just as offensive to the majority of people of religious faith, as well as many cultural sensitivities,”.
He adds, “In a multi-cultural and multi-faith society like New Zealand, it is imperative that entertainers not presume their own cultural perspective is that of the majority. Often it is not.”
Last month, Madonna faced similar criticism from Filipino archbishop Ramon Arguelles, who called her lifestyle “suggestive” and her clothing choices “vulgar.”
