Metallica has announced the release date for Metallica: Back to the Front, a “visual history” book that tells the story of the band’s seminal 1986 album, Master of Puppets, through rare and previously unpublished photos.

Along with the photos, Back to the Front will include a foreword written by frontman James Hetfield, and an afterword written by former Metallica bassist Cliff Burton’s father, Ray Burton. Cliff, who played on Metallica’s first three albums, died in a bus accident just months after Master of Puppets was released.

Metallica: Back to the Front will hit shelves and online retailers September 13. You can pre-order Back to the Front now via Metallica’s website.

Metallica is currently working on their 10th studio album, which does not have a release date yet.
