Madonna continued her family’s Africa trip this week with a visit to her adopted children’s birth country, Malawi.
The singer brought David and Mercy back for a visit to the orphanages where they had lived before being adopted. Her other children, Lourdes and Rocco, were there too. Madonna documented the trip on her Instagram account with a series of photos of her family bonding with the children at Home of Hope and Kondanani Children’s Village.
While in Malawi, David received his tribal name in a special ceremony in his ancestral village.
The family also visited a pediatric surgery and intensive care unit under construction in the Malawi city of Blantyre. Madonna reviewed plans for the hospital, which is expected to open in early 2017. She also met with Malawi President Peter Mutharika and “discussed food security, education for girls and staffing” for the new hospital.
