Kerri-Anne Kennerley made a heart-breaking confession as she prepared to leave her husband John’s bedside for a special assignment last week.
The 62-year-old, who admitted to being full of “guilt” at flying to the US and Europe for interviews, told The Daily Telegraph that dealing with her 2012 cancer diagnosis had been easier than the fall-out from John’s near-fatal accident.
“I got breast cancer… but I handled that much better than John has this,” the TV personality said.
“This has been soul-destroying with John because I was lucky in a sense to get it early… and got better.
“This with John is never going to get any better. It will always be this way.
“At the same time, you’ve just got to just get on with it.”
Kerri-Anne, who has barely left John’s bedside since his devastating fall in March this year, also revealed that it had taken her husband giving her his blessing for her to feel comfortable about heading overseas to interview Aussie singer Rick Springfield.
The couple’s niece, Zara, kindly stepped in to take over the 75-year-old’s round-the-clock care, though, ensuring that John’s roster of daily visits, meal planning and DVD duties is still in capable and loving hands.
