The latest Grammy mash-up performance spans decades and genres: Jeff Lynne and ELO will team with current nominee Ed Sheeran, past Grammy winner John Mayer, jazz icon Herbie Hancock, and Questlove from Jimmy Fallon’s house band The Roots, for a joint performance.
Lynne was recently in the news after having been added to the songwriting credits of Sam Smith’s hit “Stay With Me,” after he and Tom Petty felt it was similar to Petty’s 1989 hit “I Won’t Back Down” which they co wrote. Lynne and ELO recently reunited and last September in London, they played their first full show in 28 years.
In addition, USA Today reports Coldplay’s Chris Martin will team up with Beck on the Grammys broadcast. They join a list of musical mash-ups that already includes the likes of Rihanna with Paul McCartney and Kanye West, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, and Annie Lennox and Irish singer/songwriter Hozier. Other Grammy performers include AC/DC and Madonna.
The Grammys take place Sunday in the US, Monday in Australia.
