Grant Hackett has apologised for being drunk on a flight from Adelaide to Melbourne after the Australian Swimming trials for the Rio Olympics earlier this month.
The athlete admitted that while he was very intoxicated, he had not taken any prescription medication.
He has now promised to get off the drink for the sake of his children, who are too young to understand what’s going on now but will one day, because they’ll be able to look it up online.
The swimmer says he is full of shame for getting himself into the state that he did.
Last month Grant had to be removed from the plane in a wheelchair because he was too intoxicated to walk himself.
He has also been accused of tweaking a man’s nipple when he reclined his seat too far.
When questioned about this Grant said he’s had several conversations with this man since the flight and apologised profusely and everything has been resolved.
Grant will be taking some time off to re-evaluate things and he will be seeking help.
He added that while he will still be involved with the Australian swim team he isn’t sure what level that will be on.
