Slow burning observational series Gogglebox ended its first season on a ratings high on a night dominated by news programs.

In the absence of reality heavyweights My Kitchen Rules and The Block, news and current affair shows filled the first six placings with Nine News (1.026 million), winning Thursday.

The observational series attracted 594,000 to finish 12th on OzTAM’s overnight figures despite technically being a “repeat” episode.

Gogglebox first airs on Foxtel on Wednesday’s and screened the following night on Ten. It has slowly gathered bigger audience numbers and Ten has announced it will be renewed for another season.
