Today would’ve been George Harrison’s 73rd birthday, and to help mark the event, a home video and album documenting a star-studded 2014 tribute concert honoring the former Beatles guitarist is released today .
George Fest: A Night to Celebrate the Music of George Harrison, which features performances by Heart’s Ann Wilson, Beach Boys alums Brian Wilson and Al Jardine, and many other well-known musicians, is available as a two-CD/DVD set, a two-CD/Blu-ray package, a three-LP vinyl collection and a digital download.
The concert took place on September 28, 2014, at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, and was co-produced by Harrison’s son, Dhani, who also performed at the show. In addition, the event’s eclectic lineup featured talk-show host Conan O’Brien, Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell, The Cult’s Ian Astbury, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Norah Jones, The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, Weezer guitarist Brian Bell, Ben Harper, The Flaming Lips and many others.
The show’s set list is made up of a mix of Beatles songs written by George and his own solo compositions. Ann Wilson sang “Beware of Darkness” and also joined some of the other artists to perform “All Things Must Pass,” while Brian Wilson and Jardine teamed up on a rendition of “My Sweet Lord” and Farrell tackled Harrison’s classic Fab Four tune “Here Comes the Sun.”
The video portion of George Fest also includes bonus interviews with a number of the artists who participated in the show.
