It’s the rule of Facebook – just when you start to get comfortable it’s time to change.
This time it’s Messenger that’s getting a shake up.
Once the realm of never-ending group chats and unsolicited taunts from your hidden messages folder, Facebook is adding a third party to the mix.
Coming straight from the pages of a Sci-Fi novel, Chatbots are automated software that can carry out simple tasks or simulate a human in conversation. Jobs once performed by actual humans.
The idea is that people will be able to do things like order flowers, pay for gifts and the likes – all from Messenger of course.
According to the man himself, Mark Zuckerberg, people would rather not have to use a phone to speak to businesses. Chatbots would negate this.
The latest development follows reports last week that people have turned away from sharing personal information on Facebook in favour of other apps such as Instagram.
Whether Chatbots are the solution, we’re not yet sure…
