Buying for your relatives is always a daunting task, especially if your grandmother-in-law is The Queen of England.
Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, being the most perfect human ever, decided to give Queen Elizabeth II a jar of homemade chutney for Christmas.
Is that not the most humble and adorable thing ever?
She spoke to iTV earlier this week about it, she said:
“I can remember being at Sandringham, for the first time, at Christmas, and I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present.
“I was thinking, ‘Gosh, what should I give her?’ I thought back to what would I give my own grandparents. And I thought, ‘I’ll make her something.’ Which could have gone horribly wrong, but I decided to make my granny’s recipe of chutney.”
Apparently the gift was well-recieved by the Queen and she made sure the chutney was on her dining table the following day.
“She is hugely thoughtful,” Kate said.
“I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me and I’ve noticed since she’s done that on lots of occasions and I think it just shows her thoughtfulness, really, and her care in looking after everybody.”
We’re hardly surprised, a person who loves corgis as much as the Queen couldn’t have reacted in any other way!

The flavour of the chutney remains a mystery, but it could be “Granny’s Marrow Chutney” from her sister Pippa’s recipe book.
Duchess Kate was speaking as part of a documentary on Queen Elizabeth II’s life, ahead of her 90th birthday this April.
