Coldplay is one of the many music acts that were saddened by the news of David Bowie’s death a week ago following an 18-month battle with cancer, even though he rejected an offer to collaborate with them.
The band’s drummer, Will Champion, tells NME that they once tried getting in touch with Bowie to see if he’d consider collaborating with them on one of their songs, which Champion describes as having a “David Bowie-type character.”
Will recalls Coldplay singer Chris Martin sent Bowie a letter asking him if he’d be interested in getting involved, but he declined, explaining, “It’s not a very good song, is it?”
Coldplay took the criticism in stride though, according to Champion, who notes, “[Bowie] was very discerning – he wouldn’t just put his name to anything. I’ll give him credit for that!”
