The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde has signed a deal to write a memoir.

Her as-yet-untitled book will be published on September 8th. Doubleday, the book’s publisher, says the “rich and incredibly frank literary memoir” will cover “Hynde’s 1950s childhood in Akron, Ohio; the 1960s Cleveland rock scene and the Kent State University riots; Paris and London in the early 1970s; a strikingly intimate portrayal of the nascent punk movement; and the formation and bittersweet success and tragedy of The Pretenders.”

In a statement Hynde says, “I’m approaching writing this memoir much the same way as I would an album. I hope it makes you want to dance, have fun, dig out some old records and maybe even root through your closet and dust off your guitar.”
