In December Springsteen mentioned in press for his tour announcement that he’d been working on a project.  He’s revealed to Rolling Stone that the album was finished last summer and it was something he was working on before doing 2012’s Wrecking Ball.

Steve Van Zandt, who has heard it, says it’s “very good” with “real nice things on it, nice orchestrations.” And Springsteen’s manager, Jon Landau, says, “It will be the next thing we release. It’s something Bruce wants to stand behind.”

Springsteen also reveals that he’s on a “writing hiatus.” That has raised some eyebrows among fans concerned that finishing an album started in 2011 and then doing an album  from 1980 on tour means that The Boss actually has writer’s block.
