An American singer who appeared on the Mexican version of ”The Voice” has died after he was shot in ambush while celebrating his birthday.

Alejandro ”Jano” Fuentes, 45, was shot in the head three times on Thursday when somebody approached the car he was in and ordered him to get out of the car at gunpoint.

Fuentes refused, according to the Chicago Tribute and the gunman then fired multiple shots, leaving the singer in a critical condition.

He died in hospital on Saturday.

Fuentes’s friend Miguel Sanchez said he could not understand why anyone would want to harm the ”one of a kind” musician, who he thought of as a mentor.

Sanchez told the Trubute ”That’s why it’s terrible for us, because he didn’t have any enemies, he didn’t have a problem with nobody. He was a gentleman”

The attack comes just a week after the killing of Christina Grimmie, who appeared on the United States version of the show and was farewelled on Friday.
