Amy Schumer is a huge Madonna fan and opening up for the Queen of Pop is a dream come true. The comedian, who’ll be doing her stand-up act at Madonna’s New York shows this September, tells Entertainment Weekly, “there is no one in the world I’d want to open for more.”
She reveals how she scored the gig. “It was the craziest thing,” Amy says. “Chris Rock called me a couple of months ago and was like, ‘Madonna wants your phone number.’ I’m like, I can’t believe you have my phone number!”
She says she immediately jumped at the chance. “My answer was yes of course,” she says. “There is no one in the world I’d want to open for more. I was just jumping up and down and called all my girlfriends from high school.”
While she admits it might be tough opening for such a massive star, Amy’s taking it all in stride. “I’m just excited to be close up to the stage and scream sing her songs,” she says.
Amy will join Madonna for her three New York City shows: two at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan on September 16 and 17, and one at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on September 19. Madonna’s Rebel Heart tour kicks off September 9 in Montreal.
Tickets for Madonna’s Australian Shows for March 2016 are on sale Monday July 6.
Amy Schumer visits Australia for her new film Trainwreck also starring Bill Hader this July.
