  • Bon Scott’s Mother Isa Scott Passes Away At 94

Share |

Isa Scott, the mother of former AC/DC frontman Bon Scott, has sadly passed away at the age of 94.

Born Isabelle (Isa) Cunningham Mitchell, emigrated to Melbourne, Australia in 1952 with her husband Charles Scott and their then two sons, Ronald Belford (Bon) Scott (born 1946) and the younger Derek Scott (born 1949).

The family then moved to Western Australia in 1956 with a third son, Graeme Scott (born 1953), and finally settled in North Fremantle, where Bon is buried to this day.

Both Isa and her husband Charles (known as “Chick”) became active members of Western Australia’s Scottish community, with Chick and Bon taking up places in The Caledonian Scots Pipe Band of Fremantle, in which Bon started as a drummer.

It is from Western Australia that Bon Scott began his musical career as a member of the bands The Spektors and The Valentines.

Tragedy struck Isa Scott and the Scott family on 19 February 1980 with the news of the death of Bon Scott in London.

Throughout her life Isa Scott remained a private woman, shying away from the limelight associated with her son’s involvement in AC/DC.

She rarely spoke of Bon and AC/DC giving only a handful of interviews. Isa was a fan of the band, attending Perth AC/DC concerts in recent years whenever possible.

Watch one of Isa’s very rare interviews, for VH1’s Behind the Music AC/DC special.
