Trump 'Won't Even Take $1' Of Presidential Salary
It seems that Donald Trump will forgo the presidential salary saying he “won’t even take $1”
Last year, he promised that if he won the election he would refuse the $400,000 per year pay packet.
“The first thing I’m going to do is tell you that if I’m elected president, I’m accepting no salary, OK?” Trump said during a campaign rally in New Hampshire in October 2015.
“That’s not a big deal for me.”
Then, days later, during a Twitter Q&A, he confirmed the refusal:
“@realDonaldTrump, will you forgo the presidential salary if elected?”
Trump answered: 'As far as the salary is concerned — I won't take even one dollar. I am totally giving up my salary if I become president.'
Trump isn’t the first president to turn down the presidential salary. According to Snopes, John F. Kennedy and Herbert Hoover both donated their entire presidential salaries to charity.
What isn’t clear is if Trump’s unaccepted income will also be donated.
As of Friday, Forbes estimated Trump’s net worth as $3.7 billion.
