Moment A Basketball Player Gets The Worst Possible Injury

New Zealand Breakers forward Akil Mitchell has suffered a horrible eye injury during his team's NBL game against Cairns Taipan on Thursday night.

It happened after Mitchell received a poke to the eye in the fourth quarter, falling to the ground and causing the game to be suspended for 15 minutes.

He was taken to hospital for further treatment before posting a message to Twitter saying “Thanks for all the love, well wishes and prayers tonight. I’m home and seeing fine, more tests tomorrow.”

The incident caused distress to his fellow players and supporters with a view of the situation.

Mitchell was led off the court with a towel covering his head and players and coaches huddled around him.

The NBL tweeted “Our thoughts are with Akil Mitchell following a terrible eye injury.’’
