The BIG Reason Tourists Will Be Choosing Thailand Over Bali

A radical plan could be coming to everyone’s favourite holiday destination.

That’s right; Indonesia is considering a law that would ban the production, distribution and consumption of alcohol across the country, including in Bali.

Booze makers and sellers have warned the move would crush Bali’s tourism industry and could see people making illegal alcohol which will lead to deaths, as people look to make high content low cost alcohol.

The ban has been introduced by two Islamist parties, the United Development Party and the Prosperous Justice Party and is being discussed by the House of Representatives.

If the law is passed, it would be the first law of its kind in Muslim majority Indonesia, but there could be some exceptions to the booze ban for travellers, customary activities and religious rituals.

This is not the first time Indonesia has made moves to restrict the availability of alcohol, with the sale of booze outlawed in mini marts, despite cries from the tourism and alcohol industries.

To try and stop the ban on alcohol, operators have asked for the government to consider implementing tougher laws on the monitoring and sale of alcohol, rather than a full ban.
