Telethon For The Children's Hospital Raises Over 20 Million
The Children's Hospital Foundation is having a wonderful Monday thanks to the generosity of Queensland.
On Saturday night, the annual Channel Nine Telethon took place with an incredible final tally of $12,230,565 raised for the charity.
Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO, Rosie Simpson, said the fourth annual Channel Nine Telethon was a huge success.
“Thank you to every Queenslander who opened their heart and their pocket to help raise more than $12 million for the Children’s Hospital Foundation so we can keep helping sick kids and their families.
“Thank you also to the children and families who shared their stories for the Telethon – their amazing bravery while battling illness and injury was remarkable, and they certainly were the stars of the show.”
Broadcast live from the Royal International Convention Centre, the telethon had a host of celebs answering the telephones.
Nine Network hosts Sylvia Jeffreys, Pete Stefanovic, Sonia Kruger, David Campbell, Richard Wilkins and Natalia Cooper worked alongside Nine News Queensland presenters Melissa Downes and Andrew Lofthouse to encourage donations throughout the night.
Channel Nine Queensland Managing Director, Kylie Blucher, said: “Tonight the generosity of Queenslanders has truly astounded me. We are thrilled to have raised over $12million, and we say huge thank you to our amazing telecast partners, sponsors and donors. Without their help this incredible result would not have been possible.
“We know the funds raised will change the lives of sick children across Queensland and provide comfort and support for those families who really need it.
“I thank the entire Channel Nine team for their tireless effort to bring the Telethon to life. We will be back next year with an even bigger show, determined to smash tonight’s amazing result.”
The tally is now sitting at $12,263,100 at the time of publication.
