QLD Child Killer Will Not Spend Any Extra Time Behind Bars
Matthew Scown, dubbed the “Grin Reaper”, was imprisoned after the horrific manslaughter of four-year-old Tyrell Cobb.
In a decision made by Attorney General Yvette D'Ath, an appeal for his sentence would not be made, allowing him to walk free after less than three years in jail.
Despite growing concern for child killers, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions advised D'Ath not to appeal the sentence.
As Queensland is in the throes of an election campaign, law and order has been put front and centre with Steve Dickson, leader of One Nation, saying the decision was "just disgraceful".
Last month, Ms D'Ath announced a review into child killer sentences saying: “The Palaszczuk Government recognises that there is a growing concern from the general public about whether sentencing for criminal offences arising from the death of a child are meeting the community’s expectations,” she said.
It has been alleged in court that Tyrell was injured four times while alone with Scown.
This controversial decision will no doubt cause uproar.
