Man found shot dead in Ipswich house

A major manhunt is under way after a man was shot dead at a house in Ipswich, west of Brisbane.

Several residents rang police shortly after 2am on Friday on Stafford Road in Booval after hearing an argument and then gunfire.

Police found the body of a man with gunshot wounds.

An initial search in the dark failed to find the gunman, with police now closing off the street as their investigations continue.

One resident said he had been woken up by the gunfire.

"Just a shot. That was it," the unnamed man told the Nine Network.
