Brisbane Backpackers Fire Sees 200 Evacuated
A man has been charged after starting a fire at a backpackers’ hostel in the Valley overnight.
The 28-year-old was caught after allegedly smashing a window to gain entry and using an accelerant to start a fire in one of the rooms.
The fire broke out at 6.40pm Sunday night with more than 200 backpackers evacuated from Bunk Backpackers.
According to Police, it’s been alleged the man was observed within the vicinity of the fire and was told to leave.

“The man was then seen to leave the room and has then allegedly fled the scene through the smashed window, they said.
“It will be alleged another man has followed him to a Fortitude Valley carpark. Police located the man and he was arrested and later charged.”
The blaze has been described as a minor fire with smoke damage affecting two rooms in the hostel.
The Brisbane man faces court today with one count of attempted arson and entering a premises with intent to commit an indictable offence.
