Major Delays Expected As Roads Close For Thor Filming

Thor is set to give traffic in Brisbane's CBD a mighty hammering.

There will be significant road closures this week as part of the city becomes a movie set for the superhero film Thor: Ragnarok.

"The trip into work might take a little longer if you're coming from certain directions, but given that Brisbane is part of an international blockbuster film I think that's a pretty good trade-off," Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said.

Chris Hemsworth plays the hammer-wielding Thor and is expected to arrive in Brisbane for filming on Monday.

The film also stars Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins and Mark Ruffalo.

Parts of Mary Street, Albert Street and Margaret Street will be closed this week as filming temporarily relocates from the Gold Coast.

The Margaret Street off-ramp from the Pacific Motorway will also be closed on Monday.
