Graphic CCTV Footage Shows Brisbane Excavator Hit-And-Run

Graphic CCTV footage has emerged of an excavator mowing down a 27-year-old woman in Brisbane before driving away.

The woman, who suffered critical head injuries, can be seen crossing Hamilton Place at the intersection of Campbell Street at Bowen Hills when the large vehicle makes a left turn and runs her over.

It is believed the excavator was based at nearby railyards and Queensland Rail chief Nick Easy said his thoughts were with the woman and her family following the "terrible incident".

"This is a police matter under investigation," he said on Thursday afternoon.

"Queensland Rail is doing everything possible to assist emergency services with their enquiries."

The footage, captured just before 1am on Thursday, shows the excavator briefly stopping down the street after the crash before driving off again.

Another car rounds the corner and stops after it passes the woman who is lying on the ground.

People run to help the woman before paramedics arrive on the scene.

The woman suffered critical head injuries and was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

She has had emergency surgery but is fighting for life.

A 58-year-old man is assisting police with inquiries into the alleged hit-and-run.

Investigators have also appealed for witnesses and those who may have dashcam footage to come forward.
