Excavator Hit And Run Driver To Plead Not Guilty

A rail worker, charged with running over a young woman with an excavator in a Brisbane suburb before driving off, will plead not guilty, his lawyer says.

Iuliana Stevenson was crossing Hamilton Place at the intersection of Campbell Street at Bowen Hills at 1am on October 5, 2017 when she was hit by an excavator.

A nearby camera captured the incident as well as the excavator briefly stopping down the street before driving off again.

Andre-Shane Moorby was charged the following day with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm.

Moorby, 58, appeared briefly in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday and had his case adjourned to November 20.

Outside court, Moorby's lawyer said he would be pleading not guilty to the charge against him.

Ms Stevenson was initially in a critical condition and underwent emergency surgery at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Her parents told News Corp Australia last week the 27-year-old was improving every day and is expected to make a full recovery.

A GoFundMe page has raised almost $9000 in the past month to ease the financial burden on Ms Stevenson and her family while she remains in hospital.
