Bobbing Esky Saves Queensland Pair From Cliff
Two Queensland fishermen have been plucked from the base of a rocky cliff after a bobbing blue esky helped rescuers find them.
The men were stranded on a steep pile of rocks at the base of the cliff when rescuers reached them and their overturned tinny about 5.30am on Tuesday.
It's believed the pair, who suffered cuts and bruises, had been stuck for several hours in the dark after getting into trouble in the Stanage Bay area, north of Rockhampton.
Rescuers from the RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service were sent to the area after the men managed to activate a distress beacon.
They spent a number of hours searching but couldn't find any trace of the pair.
It wasn't until the crew noticed a blue esky in the water that they were able to spot the men on their rocky refuge, with white water all around them.
They were winched from the rocks and taken to the Rockhampton Base Hospital in stable condition.
