Aussie Couple Injured In Horrific Bali Hit And Run Incident
A young Newcastle woman is in an induced coma and undergoing surgery in a Perth hospital after she and her boyfriend suffered serious injuries when they were thrown from a motorcycle in a hit-and-run accident in Bali.
Tori Van de Stadt, 25, and her boyfriend Louis Macindoe, 26, were struck by a car last Wednesday on their final day in Bali.
The accident almost claimed their lives and caused Tori devastating facial and spinal injuries.
Her mother, Tracey, Told AAP Tori was flown from Bali to Perth where she is currently being operated on.
She said she was overwhelmed by the support, good wishes and offerings of help received on a GoFundMePage, which has raised almost $60,000 for travel expenses and medical treatment.
"It is overwhelming and just makes us feel loved and supported which is the best feeling we could have right now," she told AAP.
"That is really helping us and the fact that Tori is improving every day, that keeps us going."
The couple were found by an Australian man who stayed with the couple and helped Tori breathe for over an hour until an ambulance arrived.
Louis' family is in Bali where he has been released from hospital, recovering from a fractured eye socket, a deep cut to his head and significant blood loss.
His father Rob told the Newcastle Herald his son's condition would be reassessed when he returned to Newcastle in the next few days.
