Andy Murray's "Extreme" Fan Encounter Involved Stroking

While having dedicated - and slightly obsessive - groupies goes part-and-parcel with being a celebrity, two-time Olympic gold medallist Andy Murray has revealed the "extreme" lengths a fan once went to be near him.

"At one of the tournaments that I played, there was a maid in the hotel," the tennis star explained in an interview with the International Premier Tennis League.

"I had the 'Do Not Disturb' sign up on the door and she came in and sat on my bed and started stroking my arm at about seven in the morning when I was still sleeping.

"She then turned up at a couple more tournaments in the hotels that I was playing at in Rotterdam and Barcelona.

"That's a bit extreme, but that happened."

During the Up Close and Personal grilling, Murray also admitted to splashing the cash on a pricey car after winning big on the ATP Tour - even though he didn't have his license.

"[The first thing] I bought was a Range Rover, which I couldn't actually drive because I didn't pass my driving test until I was 22," the new dad laughed.

"But my girlfriend drove it for me... and for herself!"
