This TV Has Been Found Out to Be SPYING On You
Electronics giant, Vizio has agreed to pay $US2.2 million ($A2.9 million) to settle a case with The US Federal Trade Commission after it’s been revealed they used 11 million televisions to spy on its customers.
The television maker is accused of secretly collecting - and selling - data about its customers' locations, demographics and viewing habits via their smart TV’s.
According to the lawsuit, Vizio was capturing data "second-by-second” and selling off the information to companies that do targeted advertising.
Vizio has agreed to delete all the data it collected through the feature before March 2016. It must also prominently display its data collection and privacy policies to consumers and create a program to make sure its partners follow those policies.
