Mum Banned From Playgroup For THE Strangest Reason
A mother has been banned from her local playgroup, for being ‘too Australian’.
Tara Coverdale, was asked to leave her local playgroup after being told she was not multicultural enough to participate.
According to Newscorp, the mother of two was over the moon when she realised there was a local playgroup within walking distance of their inner-city Sydney home.
Packing her two fair-skinned, red-haired boys into the pram Tara, made her way down to her Community Centre when she was met by a staff member who bombarded her with a range of bizarre questions…
“Can I ask what your cultural background is?” the staff member asked.
Thinking the woman was just personally curious the blonde haired and blue eyed Tara happily answered “I’m Australian”.
“I’m sorry you can’t come here. It’s for multicultural families and people who speak languages other than English at home,” the woman responded.
Shocked by the response, Tara stood her ground saying “I’m not leaving”.
“My kids were playing. My older son was having such a good time with his buddy.”
But the woman insisted, stating that if Tara wanted to join a playgroup, she’d be best looking elsewhere – the closest of which was more than a 30 minute walk away.
Local Education Minister Rob Stokes said he was disappointed about the events and encouraged equality regardless of background.
“I was disappointed to hear that a mum and her young child felt they were not welcome... This is not acceptable,” he said.
“Everyone, regardless of their background, should feel included in these wonderful community activities.”
Do you think it was out of line?
