Watch: Maggie Smith Accepting Her 1979 Oscar

Ready for a serious trip down memory lane?

Today the internet unearthed a glorious video of Dame Maggie Smith accepting her second Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in California Suite, way back in 1979.

The much-loved actor had been nominated three times before and had scooped Best Actress for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie just 10 years earlier, but hadn't been present to accept her gong at the time.

But 1979 proved to be Smith's year, as she beat out Dyan Cannon, Penelope Milford, Maureen Stapleton and none other than Meryl Streep for her critically acclaimed turn in the American comedy.

Ironically, her character in the film had lost out on an Oscar. Must have been a good omen!

We're not sure what we love most in the nearly 40-year-old clip; Brooke Shields, who was 14 years old at the time, presenting the award, Smith's gorgeous red hair or the incredible late-70s fashion.

Watch the video above for yourself - and check out Meryl Streep's seriously envy-inducing black frock!
