Teenage Girl Charged With Attempted Murder

A 16-year-old girl has been charged with attempted murder, following the stabbing of a teenage girl in southeast Melbourne.

TAFE student Monica Hawkins, who is also 16, was stabbed in the neck outside Fountain Gate shopping centre in Narre Warren just after 1pm on Friday.

She was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital after she was found bleeding on a footpath and underwent emergency surgery.

Police arrested the teenager on Tuesday and she will face children's court on Wednesday charged with attempted murder and intentionally causing serious injury.
