Netflix Are Remaking One Of Our Favourite 80s TV Shows!

Gather 'round, ye kindred spirits; Netflix have announced that they're remaking Anne of Green Gables!

The eight-part series, which will be based on the 1980s hit mini-series starring Megan Follows, will reportedly hit our screens in 2017, with production kicking off next month.

We cannot wait!

And, even though the project was originally greenlit by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Netflix's involvement means that the series will be available to stream globally as soon as it premieres.

Rather interestingly, the adaptation which will be called Anne (with an 'e', of course!) will be penned by Moira Walley-Beckett, the Emmy-award winning writer of Breaking Bad - a series about a science teacher-turned-drug maker.

The Hollywood Reporter has also revealed that Whale Rider director Niki Caro will be taking the helm.

"Anne Shirley is one of Canada's greatest gifts to the world, known and loved internationally, so we're thrilled to be working with the CBC and Northwood to bring this charismatic character to both new and old fans around the world," Netflix VP of Content Elizabeth Bradley said.

Anne of Green Gables was originally published in 1908 by Lucy Maud Montgomery, but has continued to capture the hearts and imaginations of readers young and old ever since; the story follows the endearing mishaps of Anne Shirley, an orphan who is sent to live with the elderly brother-and-sister duo of Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert on Prince Edward Island.

We'll be ready and waiting with the raspberry cordial!
